A proud son of Florida, Gerald spent twenty years jumping from Coast Guard helicopters into some of the world's most dangerous seas to rescue people whose lives hung in the balance. Entering the Rescue Swimmer Program during its formative years, he was mentored by many of the legends who built the profession and became part of one of the military's most respected fraternities—the Brotherhood of the Fin.
When his rescue career ended, his search for adventure did not. He spent years building his own home on a remote island in the Bahamas, where life is measured by the tides, the weather, and the stories shared around a campfire. Today he divides his time between writing, exploring the islands, chasing fish and lobster, hunting Florida swamps, perfecting a good Bahamian rum cocktail, and reminding himself that life was never meant to be lived from the sidelines.
