My name is, Gerald Hoover and I am a retired United States Coast Guard Rescue Swimmer, adventurer, and storyteller whose life has been shaped by hurricanes, helicopters, salt water, and the relentless pursuit of the next great adventure.
I'm a proud son of Florida, and spent twenty years jumping from Coast Guard helicopters into some of the world's most dangerous seas to rescue people whose lives hung in the balance. Entering the Rescue Swimmer Program during its formative years, I was mentored by many of the legends who built the profession and I joined one of the military's most respected fraternities—the Brotherhood of the Fin.
When my rescue career ended, my search for adventure did not. I spent years building my own home on a remote island in the Bahamas, where life is measured by the tides, the weather, and the stories shared around a campfire. Today I divides my time between writing, exploring the islands, chasing fish and lobster, hunting Florida swamps, perfecting a good Bahamian rum cocktail, and reminding myself that life was never meant to be lived from the sidelines.
I believe books remain one of humanity's greatest adventures. They allow us to travel farther than airplanes, experience lives we'll never live ourselves, and preserve freedom through ideas. My stories celebrate courage, loyalty, humor, resilience, and the extraordinary people who quietly do extraordinary things.
I am also the creator of Rum Line, a brand built around island living, adventure, books, humor, and the belief that knowledge is best shared freely. Through Rum Line, I share decades of experience about the Bahamas, island life, and finding the adventures that make life worth living.
